At the top of Mt.Rakan

Mt.Rakan is on the boundary between Yamaguchi and Hiroshima prefectures, and it is located 30 kilometers northwest of Iwakuni City, and 1.5 hours from Hiroshima City by car.

The foot of the mountain is called Rakan Heights which is an about 800-meter high highland. There are various facilities there such as a mountain lodge, camping ground, tennis courts, skiing ground and so on. From the foot to the top of the mountain is covered with beautiful bamboo grass. It will take an hour to walk up to the top,from which you can enjoy a splendid panoramic view stretching to faraway mountain.

Getting there

Go by car. Travel on the Nishi-Hiroshima Bypass to Miyauchi,Hatukaichi City,and turn right to Tsuta. Then take Roure 186 to Yoshiwa. After passing through Rakan Onsen,turn left to Rakan Heights. Follow the signboard that reads " 羅漢高原 ”which means Rakan Height.

Note
To be safe, especially in winter, keep in mind not go into the mountains alone, and be sure to go with a well-experienced hiker.
