Mt.Noro, located in Kure City's neighboring Kawajiri Town, is part of the Seto Inland Sea National Park. From the coast to the 839-meter mountain top, it would take about 2.5 hours to reach the top, but it is certainly worth the climb. Around the top of the mountain are some 3,000 hectares of wide open plateau. There are many places to visit there, such as an old temple surrounded by 400-year old cedar trees, lodging, camp sites, a brush-making museum, a huge flat rock measuring 100 square meters, and an "Ice Pond", the natural ice of which people in the old times put to good use in winter. The view from the rock is truly breathtaking. Mountain ranges from Shikoku to Kyushu can be seen in the distance. ŸGetting there Take a train on JR Kure Line and get off at Ato Station. From Ato Station, it's a 30-minute walk to Sanbonmatsu Park which is the foot of the mountain. Then it's a two-hour ascent to the spectacular view at the top. ŸSuggested Schedule |
