Hikimikyo Valley

Hikimikyo Gorge are located in Hikimi Town, Shimane Prefecture, neighboring Togochi-cho in our prefecture. Ninety-six percent of the town's total area is covered by forests. There are three beautiful gorges there, Omote-hikimikyo, Ura-hikimikyo, and Oku-hikimikyo, which are part of the Nishi-Chugoku Mountains Quasi National Park.

After entering Shimane Prefecture, head to Motogumi on Route 191, cross a bridge to the left at Motogumi where there is a signboard for Oku-hikimikyo written in kanji, and then drive to the entrance of the gorge. From there walk along the streams to the 53-meter-high Oryuzu Falls. The round trip will be about four km. If you have time, you can drive through Omote-hikimi Valley to Ura-hikimikyo where there are a number of interesting places to see, such as a big maze, a puzzle house, a wooden ware factory, lodgings, a hot spa, and so on.

Getting there

Go by car if at all possible. Travel on the Chugoku Expressway and get off at the Togochi exit. Then take Route 191 to Motogumi, Hikimi-cho.
