Kinryu Forest Park at the foot of Mt.Gyoja

Mt.Goja is located in Otake City, neighboring Iwakuni City. Gyoja means monks who lead an ascetic life in the mountains.It is said they used to be practicing in this mountain.

From JR Kuba Station, Mt.Gyoja would be a 1.5-hour ascent. Up at the mountaintop, the view of the Inland Sea is marvelous. From the top, go north for a couple of minutes and you can find a trail on your left down to the Kinryu Forest Park which is situated along the upper reaches of Daizengawa River. There is a beautiful waterfall there called Kinryu-no-taki. From the park, a trail leads you to Kuba Station. Follow the signboard.

ŸGetting there
Take a train west bound on the JR Sanyo Line and get off at Kuba Station. From the station, walk north along the Sanyo Line for 100 meters and cross under the track to left. Cross a bridge and turn right and go for 300 meters. Turn left at Otoshi Shrine and walk for 300 meters to Ishizuchi Shrine. From there it is a one-hour ascent to the mountaintop.

To be safe, especially in winter, keep in mind not go into the mountains alone, and be sure to go with a well-experienced hiker.
