                            第六章 賢い人

                            Chapter VI  The Wise


76.  nidhīnaṃ va pavattāraṃ

        yaṃ passe vajjadassinaṃ

        niggayhavādiṃ medhāviṃ

        tādisaṃ paṇḍitaṃ bhaje

        tādisaṃ bhajamānassa

        seyyo hoti na pāpiyo.



  隠された宝を教えてくれる者のように

  罪を見つけて

  叱責してくれる智慧ある者(に会ったら)

  そのような賢者に親近するがよい

  そのような親近には

  善こそあれ、悪は無い。


          Should one see,as it were, a revealer of hidden treasures,

          one who points out what should be avoided,

          one who reproves faults, a man of intelligence,

          one should follow so wise a man

          following such a man

          will be better, not worse.



77.  ovadeyyānusāseyya

        asabbhā ca nivāraye

        sataṃ hi so piyo hoti

        asataṃ hoti appiyo.


  教え諭し、誡めよ

  また卑しい事から防護せよ

  実に彼は善き人に愛され、

  不善の人には愛されない。


         Let a man advise, instruct

         and let him restrain from the impure,

         he will be loved by the good,

         but hated by the wicked.



78.  na bhaje pāpake mitte

        na bhaje purisādhame

        bhajetha mitte kalyāṇe

        bhajetha purisuttame.


  悪い友と交わるな

  最低の人らと交わるな

  善い友と交われ

  最高の人らと交われ。


        One should not associate with evil friends

        one should not associate with mean fellows

        one should associate with good friends

        one should associate with noble people.


  

79.  dhammapīti sukhaṃ seti

        vipasannena cetasā

        ariyappavedite dhamme

        sadā ramati paṇḍito.


  真理を喜ぶ人は安らかに臥す

  清らかな心で

  聖者によって説かれた真理を

  賢者は常に楽しむ。(話163)


        He who delights in the Law lives happily

        with a serene mind

        in the Law made known by holy men

        ever rejoices the wise man.



80.  udakaṃ hi nayanti nettikā

        usukārā namayanti tejanaṃ

        dāruṃ namayanti tacchakā

        attānaṃ damayanti paṇḍitā.



  治水をする者は実に、水を引き

  矢を作る者は箭を曲げ

  大工は木材を矯め

  賢者は自己を整える。


         Ditch-diggers lead the water

         fletchers bend the shafts

         carpenters bend the wood

         the wise control themselves.



81.  selo yathā ekaghano

        vātena na samīrati

        evaṃ nindāpasaṃsāsu

        na samiñjanti paṇḍitā.


  恰も厚い岩が

  風に動じないように

  非難や賞賛に

  賢者は動じない。


         Even as a solid rock

         is not moved by the wind,

         so by blame or praise

         the wise are not stirred.



82.  yathāpi rahado gambhīro

        vipasanno anāvilo

        evaṃ dhammāni sutvāna

        vippasīdanti paṇḍitā.


  恰も深い湖が

  澄んで清らかであるように

  真理を聞いて

  賢者は清らかである。


         Even as a deep lake

         is clear and still,

         so listening to the Laws

         the wise become bright and pure.



83.  sabbattha ve sappurisā vajanti

        na kāmakāmā lapayanti santo

        sukhena phuṭṭhā athavā dukhena

        na uccāvacaṃ paṇḍitā dassayanti.


  実に、偉大な人たちはあらゆる所に赴き

  立派な人たちは、愛欲に駆られて放言しない

  楽に触れても、或は苦に触れても

  賢者はいろいろ見せない(落ち着いている)。


         The good walk on anywhere

          they do not prattle as if given to sensual craving

          whether touched by happiness or uncontrollable sufferings

          the wise do not show variation( elation or depression).

84.  na attahetu na parassa hetu

        na puttam icche na dhanaṃ na raṭṭaṃ

        na iccheyya adhammena samiddhim attano

        sa sīlavā paññavā dhammiko siyā.


  自分の為にも他人の為にも

  子を欲するな、財も王国も

  理法に反して自己の繁栄を望むな

  彼(賢者)は、戒行と智慧と如法とあれ。


         Neither  for his own sake nor for the sake of another

         should a man desire son, wealth, or kingdom

         he should not seek his own prosperity by unjust means

         he should be religious, wise, and righteous.



85.  appakā te manussesu

        ye janā pāragāmino

        athāyaṃ itarā pajā

        tīram evānudhāvati.


  少ないのだ、人々の中で

  彼岸に達する者は

  一方、他の人々は

  (此方の)岸を走り回るだけ。


        Few amongst people are

        those who reach the other shore

        while other people here

        run about this shore.

  


86.  ye ca kho sammadakkhāte

       dhamme dhammānuvattino

       te janā pāram essanti

       maccudheyyaṃ suduttaraṃ.


  しかし、また、正しく見て

  真理に従う人々は

  彼岸に赴くであろう

  極めて超え難い死の領域を超えて。


        But when well preached

        those who follow the Law

        will cross to the other shore

        beyond the domain of death,difficult to overcome.



87.  kaṇhaṃ dhammaṃ vippahāya

        sukkaṃ bhāvetha paṇḍito

        okā anokaṃ āgamma

        viveke yattha dūramaṃ.


  黒い邪悪な法を捨てて

  賢者は白く清い法を修めよ

  家から家無きになって

  独り、楽しみ難い所へと。


         Abandoning the way of darkness

         the wise man should learn the way of light

         leaving home, to the homeless life

         in solitude, where enjoyment is hard to find.

88.  tatrābhiratim iccheyya

        hitvā kāme akiñcano

        pariyodapeyya attānaṃ

        cittaklesehi paṇḍito.


  そこに歓喜を欲せよ

  愛欲を捨て、無所有である所に

  己を浄化せよ

  賢者は心の汚れを去って。


         There he should seek enjoyment

         giving up sensual pleasures, with no possession

         cleansing himself

         the wise be away from the impurities of the heart.



89.  yesaṃ sambodhiyaṃgesu

        sammā cittaṃ subhāvitaṃ

        ādānapaṭinissagge

        anupādāya ye ratā

        khīṇāsavā jutīmanto

        te loke parinibbutā.


                     Paṇḍitavaggo chaṭṭho



  覚りに至る段階(七覚支)を

  正しく心に修め

  執着を捨て

  取著のないのを楽しみ

  煩悩を滅ぼし尽くして輝く人たちは

  この世において、般涅槃にいる。


       賢い人 第六章


          In the (seven)elements of enlightenment,

          those whose minds are well trained,

          who without clinging to anything

          rejoice in freedom from attachment,

          those who have rid themselves of the

                    contaminations, full of light,

          even in this world, they have passed into Nibbāna.
