One who tells lies goes to hell

    are reborn in hell.

          tatto aggisikhūpamo

Better were it to swallow an iron ball,

red-hot like a flame of fire

than that one who is irreligious

should live unrestrainedly on the charity of the land.

Four misfortunes befall the heedless man

who runs after other men's wives

he does not acquire happiness and prosperity,

                                                he sleeps in discomfort,

thirdly, he incurs reproach, and fourthly he goes to hell.

          nirayāy' upakaḍḍhati.

Even as a blade of grass wrongly handled

    cuts the hand

so the life of a monk, wrongly handled

drags the monk down to hell.

312.  yaṃ kiñci saṭhilaṃ kammaṃ

          saṃkiliṭṭhañ ca yaṃ vataṃ

          saṃkassaraṃ brahmacariyaṃ

If there is anything toe done, one should do it

    do it firmly and vigorously

          nirayamhi samappitā.
