                 第二十一章 さまざまなこと

                 Chapter XXI   Miscellaneous


290.  mattāsukhapariccāgā

          passe ce vipulaṃ sukhaṃ

          caje mattāsukhaṃ dhīro

          sampassṃ vipulaṃ sukhaṃ


 わずかな楽を棄てて

 広大な楽を見るとすれば

 賢者はわずかな楽を棄てよ

 広大な楽を観て。


    If by renouncing some trifling pleasure

    one sees a larger pleasure,

    the wise should renounce the trifling pleasure

    considering the larger pleasure.



291.  paradukkhūpadhānena

          attano sukham icchati

          verasaṃsaggasaṃsaṭṭho

          verā so na pamuccati.


 他に苦を与えることによって

 自己の楽を求める者は

 怨みの絆に絡まれて

 怨みから解放されることはない。


    He that, by inflicting sufferings on others,

    seeks his own happiness

    he, entangled in the bonds of hatred,

    is not freed from hatred.



292.  yaṃ hi kiccaṃ apaviddhaṃ

          akiccaṃ pana kayirati

          unnaḷānaṃ pamattānaṃ

          tesaṃ vaḍḍhanti āsavā.


 実に為すべきが打ち捨てられ

 然るに為すべからざるが為される

 高慢で放逸な者たち

 彼らには煩悩が増大する。(話68、152)


    What should be done is left undone

    what should not be done,however, is done

    of those arrogant and heedless

    the impurities ever increase.



293.  yesañ ca susamāraddhā

          niccaṃ kāyagatā sati

          akiccan te na sevanti

          kicce sātaccakārino

          satānaṃ sampajānānaṃ

          atthaṃ gacchanti āsavā


 しかし、よく努力し

 常に身体に気をつけて

 為すべからざることに親しまず

 為すべきは常に為し

 念をもって正知する者には

 煩悩が消えて行く。


    In those who make good efforts

    always in meditating on their bodies,

    who do not follow after what should not be done

    who steadfastly do what should be done

    who are mindful and intelligent,

    the impurities come to an end.

294.  mātaraṃ pitaraṃ hantvā

          rājāno dve ca khattiye

          raṭṭhaṃ sānucaraṃ hantvā

          anīgho yāti brāhmaṇo.


 (渇愛という)母と(慢心という)父を殺し

 (常見と断見という)王族たる二人の王も

 (六根と六境という)王国の従者も殺し

 婆羅門(阿羅漢)は苦なく行く。


    Killing a mother(craving)and a father(conceit)

    two brahmin kings(eternity-belief and

                                                       annihilation-belief)

   and killing kingdom valets(the sense bases and

                                                                        sense objects),

   the Brahman(Arahat) goes free from sufferings.



295.  mātaraṃ pitaraṃ hantvā

          rājāno dve ca sotthiye

          veyyagghapañcamaṃ hantvā

          anīgho yāti brāhmaṇo.


 母と父を殺し

 バラモンたる二人の王も

 虎の如き第五のもの(疑)を殺し

 婆羅門(阿羅漢)は苦なく行く。


    Killing a mother(craving)and a father(conceit)

    two learned brahmin kings(eternity-belief and

                                                       annihilation-belief)

    and killing the tiger-like fifth(doubt)

    the Brahman(Arahat) goes free from sufferings.



296.  suppabuddhaṃ pabujjhanti

          sadā Gotamasāvakā

          yesaṃ divā ca ratto ca

          niccaṃ buddhagatā sati.


 善く目覚めているのである

 いつもゴータマの弟子は

 昼も夜も

 常に念は佛に向いて。(話167)


    Well awake they arise

    at all times the disciples of Gautama,

    by day and by night

    their thought is always set on the Buddha.



297.  suppabuddhaṃ pabujjhanti

          sadā Gotamasāvakā

          yesaṃ divā ca ratto ca

          niccaṃ dhammagatā sati.


 善く目覚めているのである

 いつもゴータマの弟子は

 昼も夜も

 常に念は法に向いて。(話171)


    Well awake they arise

    at all times the disciples of Gautama,

    by day and by night

    their thought is always set on the Law.



298.  suppabuddhaṃ pabujjhanti

          sadā Gotamasāvakā

          yesaṃ divā ca ratto ca

          niccaṃ saṃghagatā sati.


 善く目覚めているのである

 いつもゴータマの弟子は

 昼も夜も

 常に念は僧伽に向いて。


    Well awake they arise

    at all times the disciples of Gautama,

    by day and by night

    their thought is always set on the Order.

299.  suppabuddhaṃ pabujjhanti

          sadā Gotamasāvakā

          yesaṃ divā ca ratto ca

          niccaṃ kāyagatā sati.


 善く目覚めているのである

 いつもゴータマの弟子は

 昼も夜も

 常に念は身に向いて。


    Well awake they arise

    at all times the disciples of Gautama,

    by day and by night

    their thought is always set on the body.


   

300.  suppabuddhaṃ pabujjhanti

          sadā Gotamasāvakā

          yesaṃ divā ca ratto ca

          ahiṃsāya rato mano.


 善く目覚めているのである

 いつもゴータマの弟子は

 昼も夜も

 心は不傷害に楽しんで。(話126)


    Well awake they arise

    at all times the disciples of Gautama,

    by day and by night

    their mind delights in non-injury.



301.  suppabuddhaṃ pabujjhanti

          sadā Gotamasāvakā

          yesaṃ divā ca ratto ca

          bhāvanāya rato mano.


 善く目覚めているのである

 いつもゴータマの弟子は

 昼も夜も

 心は修行に楽しんで。(話45)


     Well awake they arise

    at all times the disciples of Gautama,

    by day and by night

    their mind delights in meditation.



302.  duppabbajjaṃ durabhiramaṃ

          durāvāsā gharā dukhā

          dukkho 'samānasaṃvāso

          dukkhānupatit' addhagū

          tasmā na c' addhagū siyā

          na ca dukkhānupatito siyā.


 出家し難く楽しみ難い

 俗家は住み難く苦である

 人と住むのは苦であり

 遊行者は苦に陥る

 それ故に遊行者となるなかれ

 苦に陥るなかれ。


    It is hard to become a monk and to enjoy

    hard to live at home and it is suffering

    Living together with other ones is painful

    the life of a wonderer is beset with pain

    therefore, do not be a wonderer

    do not fall into sufferings.



303.  saddho sīlena sampanno

          yasobhogasamappito

          yaṃ yaṃ padesaṃ bhajati

          tattha tatth' va pūjito.


 信あり戒を具え

 名声と富貴を有した人は

 如何なる土地へ赴いても

 其処此処で尊敬される。


    If one is faithful and endowed with virtue,

    with fame and prosperity,

    wherever the one goes,

    even there the one is revered.

304.  dūre santo pakāsenti

          himavanto va pabbato

          asant' ettha na dissanti

          rattikhittā yathā sarā.


 遠くからでも善き人は明らか

 ヒマラヤの山々のように

 不善の人は見えない

 夜陰に放たれた箭のように。


    From afar the good are visible

    like the Himalaya mountains

    but the wicked are not seen

    like arrows shot in the night.



305.  ekāsanaṃ ekaseyyaṃ

          eko caram atandito

          eko damayam attānaṃ

          vanante ramito siyā.


                    Pakiṇṇakavaggo ekavīsatimo


 一人坐し一人臥し

 一人懈怠なく行じ

 一人自己を調え

 森で(独居を)楽しめ。


   さまざまなこと第二十一章


    Sit alone, sleep alone

    act alone without being indolent

    alone control oneself

    delight in living in the forest.
