                  第十六章 愛情

                  Chapter XVI  Affection


209.  ayoge yuñjaṃ attānaṃ

          yogasmiñ ca ayojayaṃ

          atthaṃ hitvā piyaggāhī

          pihet' attānuyoginaṃ.


   気散じに自己を結びつけ(馴染み)

            瞑想に結びつけず(馴染まず)

   自己を愛楽に捕われる者は

   自己の修行に専心する者を羨む。(悟136)


            One who gives oneself to the distractions

            and does not give oneself to meditation,

            adhering to pleasure,

            comes to envy those who exert themselves in mediation.



210.  mā piyehi samāgañchi

          appiyehi kudācanaṃ

          piyānaṃ adassanaṃ dukkhaṃ

          appiyānañ ca dassanaṃ.



   愛するものに会う勿れ

   愛さぬものには決して

   愛するものに会わないのは苦(だから)

   愛さぬものに会うのも苦(だから)。


             Do not associate with those who are dear

             and never those who are not dear

             not seeing those who are dear is painful

             seeing those who are not dear is also painful.



211.  tasmā piyaṃ na kayirātha

          piyāpāyo hi pāpako

          ganthā tesaṃ na vijjanti

          yesaṃ n' atthi piyāppiyaṃ.


   それ故、愛するものを作るな

   愛するものとの別れは実に禍いである

   彼らに束縛はない

   愛するものも愛さぬものもない者たちに。


            Therefore, do not take a liking to anything

            loss of the loved object is evil

            there are no bonds for them

            who have neither likes nor dislikes.


   

212.  piyato jāyatī soko

          piyato jāyatī bhayaṃ

          piyato vippamuttassa

          n' atthi soko kuto bhayaṃ.


   愛するものから愁が生じ

   愛するものから怖れが生じる

   愛するものから離れた者に

   愁はない、どこからも怖れはない。


            From a liking arises sorrow

            from a liking arises fear

            to the one who is free from a liking

            there is neither sorrow nor fear of  anything.

213.  pemato jāyatī soko

          pemato jāyatī bhayaṃ

          pemato vippamuttassa

          n' atthi soko kuto bhayaṃ.


   愛情から愁が生じ

   愛情から怖れが生じる

   愛情から離れた者に

   愁はない、どこからも怖れはない。


            From affection arises sorrow

            from affection arises fear

            to the one who is free from affection

            there is neither sorrow nor fear of  anything.


214.  ratiyā jāyati soko

          ratiyā jāyatī bhayaṃ

          ratiyā vippamuttassa

          n' atthi soko kuto bhayaṃ.


   喜楽から愁が生じ

   喜楽から怖れが生じる

   喜楽から離れた者に

   愁はない、どこからも怖れはない。


            From pleasure arises sorrow

            from pleasure arises fear

            to the one who is free from pleasure

            there is neither sorrow nor fear of  anything.



215.  kāmato jāyati soko

          kāmato jāyatī bhayaṃ

          kāmato vippamuttassa

          n' atthi soko kuto bhayaṃ.


   愛欲から愁が生じ

   愛欲から怖れが生じる

   愛欲から離れた者に

   愁はない、どこからも怖れはない。


            From lusts arises sorrow

            from lusts arises fear

            to the one who is free from lusts

            there is neither sorrow nor fear of  anything.



216.  taṇhāya jāyatī soko

          taṇhāya jāyatī bhayaṃ

          taṇhāya vippamuttassa

          n' atthi soko kuto bhayaṃ.


   渇愛から愁が生じ

   渇愛から怖れが生じる

   渇愛から離れた者に

   愁はない、どこからも怖れはない。


            From craving arises sorrow

            from craving arises fear

            to the one who is free from craving

            there is neither sorrow nor fear of  anything.

217.  sīladassanasampannaṃ

          dhammaṭṭhaṃ saccavādinaṃ

          attano kamma kubbānaṃ

          taṃ jano kurute piyaṃ.


   戒を具え、正しく見

   法に従い、真理を語り

   為すべきことを為す

   そのような人は愛される。


             One who observes commandments

                                 and has an insight into the Truth

             one who is established in the Law

                                 and tells the Sacred Truth

             one who performs one's own duties

             such a person the world hold dear.


           

218.  chandajāto anakkhāte

          manasā ca phuṭo siyā

          kāmesu ca appaṭibaddhacitto

          uddhaṃsoto ti vuccati.


   言葉に表せぬこと(涅槃)に意を起こし

   そのことで心を満たし

   欲望に心が縛られないならば

   上流にある者と言われる。


             One who has developed a desire

                                                  for the ineffable(Nibbāna)

             one whose mind is replete with It

             one who is not attached to lusts

             such a person is called One Bound Up-stream.



219.  cirappavāsiṃ purisaṃ

          dūrato sotthim āgataṃ

          ñātimittā suhajjā ca

          abhinandanti āgataṃ.


   久しく不在であった人が

   遠くから無事に還って来ると

   親戚・友人・知己たちが

   還って来た者を祝福する。


            When one who has been long away

            returns safe from afar,

            by kinsfolk, friends, acquaintance

            the person is blessed.



220.  tath' eva katapuññam pi

          asmā lokā paraṃ gataṃ

          puññāni paṭigaṇhanti

          piyaṃ ñātīva āgataṃ.


                      Piyavaggo soḷasamo


   そのように善を為して

   この世からあの世に行った人を

   福徳が迎える

   親戚が還って来た愛しい人を迎えるように。


      愛情 第16章


             Just so, when one who has done good deeds

             goes from this world to the other

             the good deeds receive the person

             even as kinsfolk receive a dear one who has returned home.
