                  第十四章 ブッダ

                  Chapter XIV  The Buddha


179.  yassa jitaṃ nāvajīyati

          jitaṃ assa no yāti koci loke

          tam buddham anatagocaraṃ

          apadaṃ kena padena nessatha.


   (ブッダの)勝利は失われない

   この世間で誰も彼に打ち勝つ者はいない

   無辺の地にあるブッダ

   足跡のない彼をどのような道で誘うのか。


            His conquest is not conquered again

            no one in this world can attain victory over him

            the Buddha, unlimited in power,

            and trackless, by what track can you lead him?



180.  yassa jālinī visattikā

          taṇhā n' atthi kuhiñci netave

          tam buddham anantagocaraṃ

          apadaṃ kena padena nessatha.


   網のような執着

   何処かへ誘う欲愛のない

   無辺の地にあるブッダ

   足跡のない彼をどのような道で誘うのか。


            With no desire like a net

            with no craving that would bring him back to

                                                                      any existence

            the Buddha, unlimited in power,

            and trackless, by what track can you lead him?



181.  ye jhānapasutā dhīrā

          nekkhammpasame ratā

          devāpi tesaṃ pihayanti

          sambuddhānaṃ satīmataṃ.


   熱心に禅定に励む賢者たち

   出離と寂静を楽しむ者

   神々ですら彼らを羨む

   正覚した者、念ある者を。


           The wise who are devoted to meditation

           who delight in the tranquility of the retirement

                                                                     from the world

           even the gods adore them

           those enlightened, mindful.



182.  kiccho manussapaṭilābho

          kicchaṃ maccāna jīvitaṃ

          kicchaṃ saddhammasavanaṃ

          kiccho buddhānam uppādo.


    

   人身受け難く

   生き難し

   正法聴き難く

   諸佛遇い難し。(悟170)


            Difficult to obtain birth as a human being

            difficult to live the life of mortals

            difficult to hear the Sublime Truth

            difficult to encounter the arising of the Buddhas.



         

183.  sabba pāpassa akaraṇaṃ

          kusalassa upasaṃpadā

          sacittapariyodapanaṃ

          etaṃ buddhāna sāsanaṃ


  (七佛通誡偈)

   諸悪莫作

   諸善奉行

   自浄其意

   是諸佛教 (話200)


        The shunning of all evil

           the doing of good

           the cleansing of the heart

           this is the teaching of the Buddhas.



184.  khantī paramaṃ tapo titikkhā

          nibbānaṃ paramaṃ vadanti buddhā

          na hi pabbajito parūpaghātī

          samaṇo hoti paraṃ viheṭhayanto.


   忍耐・堪忍は最高の苦行である

   涅槃は最高であると諸佛は言う

   他人を害する者は決して出家者ではない

   沙門は他人を悩ます者ではない。


            Patience, long-suffering, is the highest austerity

            nibbāna is supreme,the Buddhas declare

            one who oppresses others is not a true monk

            a true ascetic would not annoy others.



185.  anupavādo anupaghāto

          pātimokkhe ca saṃvaro

          mattaññutā ca bhattasmiṃ

          pantañ ca sayanāsanaṃ

          adhicitte ca āyogo

          etaṃ buddhāna sāsanaṃ.


   罵らず、害さず

   戒律において身をよく護り

   食において量を知り

   人里離れて臥座し

   禅定に精勤する

   是諸佛教


            Not blaming, not harming

            restraint under the Law

            moderation in food

            a remote lodging

            diligence in higher concentration

            this is the teaching of the Buddhas.

186.  na kahāpaṇavassena

          titti kāmesu vijjati

          appassādadukhā kāmā

          iti viññāya paṇḍito.


   金貨の雨をもってしても

   欲望の満足はない

   欲望は楽しみの少ない苦であると

   賢者は知っている。(悟47)


             Not with the rain of coins

             can the lusts be satisfied

             the lusts are of small enjoyment

                                             and full of pains

             the wise understand.



187.  api dibbesu kāmesu

          ratiṃ so nādhigacchati

          taṇhakhayarato hoti

          sammāsambuddhasāvako.


   たとえ天上の快楽をもってしても

   楽しみは得られない

   渇愛の滅尽が

   正覚者の弟子(の楽しみ)である。(悟47)


            Even in celestial pleasures

            he finds no delight

            only in the destruction of all desires

            does delight the disciple of the Supremely Enlightened.



188. bahuṃ ve saraṇaṃ yanti

         pabbatāni vanāni ca

         ārāmarukkhacetyāni

         manussā bhayatjjitā.


   多くのものを拠り所とする

   山々や林

   園、樹木、霊祠を

   人は恐怖に駆られて。


            Those go for refuge to many places

            to hills and to woods

            to groves, to trees, to shrines,

            who are driven by fear.



189.  n' etaṃ kho saraṇaṃ khemaṃ

          n' etaṃ saraṇam uttamaṃ

          n' etaṃ saraṇaṃ āgamma

          sabbadukkhā pamuccati.


   実にこれらは安穏な拠り所ではない

   最上の拠り所ではない

   これらの拠り所に由っては

   すべての苦から免れない。


             Such is no sure refuge

             such is no supreme refuge

             by resorting to such a refuge

             a man is not delivered from all pains.

190.  yo ca buddhañ ca dhammañ ca

          saṃghañ ca saraṇaṃ gato

          cattāri ariyasaccāni

          sammapaññāya passati.


   しかしブッダと法と

   僧に帰依する者は

   四つの聖なる真理を

   正しい智慧をもって見る。


            But in the Buddha and the Law

            and the Order whoever takes refuge,

            the Four Noble Truths

            with clear understanding he perceives.



191.  dukkhaṃ dukkhasamuppādaṃ

          dukkhassa ca atikkamaṃ

          ariyañ c' aṭṭhaṅgikaṃ maggaṃ

          dukkhūpasamagāminaṃ.


   (四つの真理すなわち)苦と苦の生起

   苦の克服と

   聖なる八支の道

   苦の終滅に導く(道を見る)。


             Suffering and the Origin of Suffering

             and the Escape from Suffering

             and the Noble Eightfold Path

             which leads to the cessation of Suffering.



192.  etaṃ kho saraṇaṃ khemaṃ

          etaṃ saraṇam uttamaṃ

          etaṃ saraṇaṃ āgamma

          sabbadukkhā pamuccati.



   実にこれらは安穏な拠り所であり

   最上の拠り所であり

   これらの拠り所に由って

   すべての苦から免れる。


             Such is sure refuge

             such is supreme refuge

             by resorting to this refuge

             a man is delivered from all pains.

193.  dullabho purisājañño

          na so sabbattha jāyati

          yattha so jāyati dhīro

          taṃ kulaṃ sukham edhati.


   高貴な人は得難く

   彼は何処にでも生まれるわけではない

   彼のような賢者が生まれる

   そういう家(世界)は栄える。


             A well-bred person is hard to be found

             such a person is not born everywhere

             wherein such a wise one is born

             that household prospers.



194.  sukho buddhānaṃ uppādo

          sukhā saddhammadesanā

          sukhā saṅghassa sāmaggī

          samaggānaṃ tapo sukho.


   諸佛の出現は楽しく

   正法の説示は楽しい

   僧伽の和合は楽しく

   和合衆の修行は楽しい。


            Pleasant is the rise of the Buddhas

            pleasant is the preaching of the sacred Teaching

            pleasant is peace and unity in the Order

            the austerity of those who live in concord is pleasant.



195.  pūjārahe pūjayato

          buddhe yadi va sāvake

          papañcasamatikkante

          tiṇṇasokapariddave.


   供養に値する人々を供養する

   ブッダもしくはその諸弟子を

   障礙を超え

   悲泣を渡った人々を。


            Paying homage to those who are worthy of veneration

            whether they are  Buddha or his disciples

            who have overpassed the hindrances

            who have crossed the sea of sorrow.



196.  te tādise pūjayato

          nibbute akutobhaye

          na sakkā puññaṃ saṅkhātuṃ

          im' ettam api kenaci.


                         Buddhavaggo cuddasamo



   そのような人々を供養する

   寂滅と安心に達した人々を

   福を計り得ようか

   斯くの如き(福)を何かによって。


      ブッダ  第十四章


            Paying homage to those

            who have attained Nibbāna and peace of mind

            can the merit be measured

            whereby the merit like that ?
